Have been told that "Two Double Beds in a Comfort Hotel" will NOT be published after all in Prime Books' Strange Pleasures #4. Instead, it's been moved over to Pendragon Books who will publish it in a major new anthology of speculative fiction, provisionally called New Writings in the Fantastic -- edited by John Grant.

It will be launched in the UK at Fantasycon 2007 and in the US a few weeks later at the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga, New York State.

BeWrite Books is currently working on putting together a print collection of flash fiction. They've got eight of mine in the mix.

Fib -- now sweeping the planet!

There's a brand new poetic form sweeping the world at the moment. Called a 'fib', it's a six line, 20 syllable poem with a syllable count by line of 1/1/2/3/5/8, the classic Fibonacci sequence. In short, start with 0 and 1, add them together to get your next number, then keep adding the last two numbers together for your next one.

So far, fibs have typically ended at line six. But you can keep going if you're brave enough!

Deception

My first play, "Deception", was performed at last summer's Toronto Fringe Festival. A wonderful Guelph-based band, what the thunder said, composed and recorded original music for our show. They've now posted sound bites on their web site.

Here's the poem you hear being read by Emerson Walker at the end of the promo. His lover, the poet Falina MacDonald, has just died and Emerson is reading from one of Falina's books, trying to explain to his estranged daughter that it's what her mother had to do ... write:

I watch the nighttime chatter of fireflies in the forest.

I feel the thrumming of the bullfrogs’ cry.

I hear the songs sung at dusk by men growing old.

I see the fires they build on the beach at night.

Life breathes and time passes through us.

For a moment we hold fast to the secrets in our hearts.
